JUST THE FACTS
No, not at the moment. This started as a fun idea to maybe sell baked goods one day, but with jobs and school it’s not realistic to keep up quality, marketing, and production all at once. For now, we’re focused on sharing recipes here, plus the occasional Instagram post and TikTok!
For the most part, yes! Many recipes are created or adapted by us — sometimes from TikTok videos or other food blogs, but we tweak the quantities to suit our oven or our own taste. For traditional Mauritian dishes, the recipes are often passed down in our family and cooked ‘from the heart,’ so we’re still in the process of writing them down properly!
Right now, our focus is on growing this blog and sharing recipes — but we’re definitely open to future opportunities! As the site expands, we’d love to collaborate with food brands, local businesses, or even feature products we genuinely enjoy using. We’re also thinking about adding food reviews later on (more writing, less talking for now — no voiceovers or face‑to‑camera just yet!). If your brand aligns with what we do and love, we’d be happy to chat about partnerships in the future.
We started with a Samsung S20 FE, which did surprisingly well for our first recipe shots. Later, we moved to a Canon camera (we’ll update the exact model soon!) for better quality and flexibility.
These days, most photos are shot on a mix of Samsung S22 Ultra and Samsung S24 Ultra — smartphone cameras have gotten so good that they’re often all we need for blog and social content!
We honestly started by just… winging it! In the beginning, we shot everything on a Samsung S20 FE and focused on natural light, clean plates, and simple setups. Over time, we picked up tips from YouTube, TikTok, Pinterest, and other food blogs — learning how to lay out food attractively, balance colors, and choose background elements like linens, wooden boards, or simple props that don’t distract from the dish.
We’ve since upgraded to a Canon camera (and later the Samsung S22 Ultra and S24 Ultra), but the biggest lesson was that you don’t need expensive gear to start. A phone, good lighting, and practice are more important than a fancy camera. We’re still learning as we go — every shoot teaches us something new!
Yes, lightly! We adjust brightness, color, and cropping to make the food look as close to real-life delicious as possible. No fake steam or heavy editing — just natural tweaks.
Mostly natural light — we shoot near windows during the day for soft, even lighting. For evening or cloudy days, we sometimes use a simple light panel or ring light to keep colors true.
